Dr. James Stanley Hunter III, son of the late Dr. James S Hunter, Jr and Margaret Stoner Hunter was born in Rochester Minnesota on December 21, 1952. He spent his formative years in Manhattan, Kansas. James received his Bachelor and Masters in Entomology from University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He went on to receive his PhD in Med-Vet Entomology from Texas A&M in Byron, Texas.
From there, Jim went on to complete his Post-Doc at the University of Georgia experiment station in Tifton, Ga. This is where he had the honor of meeting and marrying his wife, Brenda Alsobrook Hunter. Together they built a life that included several cross country moves and 36 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Brenda and their two children: His daughter BreAnna (Matt) Brillhart, son James Stephen Hunter (Elena), two grandchildren, Caroline and Theodore Brillhart. Two sisters, Laurie Hunter Weber (Chuck) of La Jolla, CA, and Leslie Wyndyka of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by many beloved brother & sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cynthia Hunter Hutchinson.
Jim was a dedicated believer in God and read his Bible daily. Jim enjoyed a wonderful career as a Research Scientist in Animal Health with Farnam Companies of Phoenix, AZ, and went on to spend 25 years with Rhone Merieux Inc, which became Merial, then Sanofi and finally BMI. He retired in Spring of 2021. During retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time in the desert southwest where he bird watched and collected bugs. He enjoyed traveling with his wife & together they explored many beaches and took cruises and train trips. The view he loved most was watching the sun rise and set over the mountains in Arizona from the comfort of his hot tub.
Visitation will be held at Goshen Primitive Baptist Church on Monday, November 20th at 10AM. Funeral Services to follow at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to Goshen Primitive Baptist Church, 500 W. Cedar Tree Lane, Hartsburg, MO 65039.
